Monica Kuteesa is a senior scientist in the HIV epidemiology and interventions programme at the Medical Research Council/Uganda Virus Research Institute (MRC/UVRI) Uganda Research Institute on AIDS, and a PhD student in Epidemiology and Population Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK.

Her current work consists of epidemiology at the intersection of substance use and infectious diseases among key population settings in sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on fishing communities in Uganda.

Her previous work has focused more broadly on HIV vaccine preparedness and HIV prevention among key populations and vulnerable groups. This work includes HIV combination prevention, and discrete choice experiments for new HIV prevention products for Ugandan fisher folk; HIV incidence cohort studies among uniformed personnel; and the impact of HIV on the health and wellbeing of older persons infected and affected by HIV
