Themba Ginindza is an epidemiologist and senior lecturer in the discipline of Public Health Medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in Durban, South Africa. Currently, he is involved in two major research projects, namely, the Multinational Lung Cancer Control Programme (MLCCP), as a lead principal investigator, and the clinical trial pilot study for the Cervical Cancer Screening and Treatment Algorithms Study using HPV Testing in Africa (CESTAP) as a co-principal investigator. He has also been involved in a research project on the “Burden of HPV infection and HPV-related conditions among sexually active women in the Kingdom of Swaziland: its implications during the era of HIV epidemic” as leading principal investigator.

Ginindza’s main research interests include: Cancer Epidemiology and Cancer prevention research (mainly: HPV-related cancer screening; The role of HPV on cancers; Epidemiology & natural history of HPV on the different cancers; Rationalisation of cervical cancer screening during the Era of HIV; Development of standardised, programmatic approach to HPV-related cancer screening and the appropriate use of screening technologies); Sexual & Reproductive health; and Mapping & Modelling of Communicable and Non-communicable diseases.
