SANTHE affiliate scoops ASLM award

SANTHE affiliate, Dr Barbara Burmen, Operations Research Co-ordinator, Senior Research Officer, at the Kenya Medical Research Institute/Center for Disease Control and Prevention Research and Public Health Collaboration (KEMRI/CDC), has been awarded the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) 2016 Best Laboratory Champion Clinician Award - Honourable Mention.

The ASLM2016 seeks to promote and recognise an exceptional clinician in the field of public health whose work has had a profound impact and/or benefit on laboratory medicine in Africa. Individuals who meet the following criteria may be nominated: playing a key role in providing laboratory services to under served and hard to reach populations; promoting the integration of laboratory services in individual health; serving/practising in public and/or private clinics or hospitals; advocating for laboratory-based diagnosis; influential in laboratory policy development; strengthening laboratory-clinician interface; promotes and recognises clinicians in the field of laboratory science with profound impact and benefit to public health.

Three nominees are selected as finalists, one is recognised as the winner, and the other two receive a honourable mention.
