With the aim of bringing forth solutions to some of Africa’s life-threatening diseases, Mdleleni’s project is focused on assessing the burden of Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and HPV-related conditions among key population in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and its implications during the era of HIV epidemic. HPV infection causes virtually all cases of cervical cancer, however there is paucity of information regarding prevailing cases HPV induced vaginal, vulvar, penile, and anal cancers. With her study, she aims to contribute to a body of work that provides empiric basis for effective control of HPV, cancer prevention controls as well as efficacious and accessible vaccine development.
