The scale-up of Treat for All programme is the game changer for estimating HIV incidence from cross-sectional sampling. Moyo’s research focuses on an innovative algorithm for identifying new HIV infections in cross sectional sampling. His team uses the information on how diverse HIV strains are, adjusting presence multiple founder strains and  level of viral replication, and recombination to refine estimates of HIV incidence. This allows them to differentiate recent infections in a cross sectional survey in the context of high proportion of individuals with access to antiretroviral therapy (ART).
