Maphe Mthembu is a medical research scientist whose work focuses on HPV and HIV research in South Africa. She is currently co-leading a pilot HPV cohort in KwaZulu-Natal, building on earlier experience with adolescent girls and young women in HIV prevention studies. She previously worked in HIV and TB immunology, where she gained experience in laboratory science and translational research, which now informs her interest in population-based cohorts and implementation research. Alongside her scientific work, Maphe values mentorship and community engagement, often seeking ways to make research accessible and relevant to everyday life. Her journey reflects both professional dedication and a commitment to service. By combining her immunology background with cohort research, she aims to contribute meaningfully to science and inspire young people to recognize and pursue their potential.
