Obondo James Sande is a physician-scientist and lecturer in the Department of Immunology and Molecular Biology at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda, where he joined the faculty in 2018. His research focuses on understanding host–pathogen interactions and immune responses to infectious diseases, with the goal of advancing vaccine development and HIV cure strategies.
His work explores immune evasion mechanisms and their implications for the development of vaccine adjuvants and adjuvant-based therapeutics targeting tuberculosis (TB), HIV, and visceral leishmaniasis, a neglected tropical disease. He also investigates the impact of HIV–TB co-infection on HIV-1 reservoir dynamics, generating insights that may inform the development of effective HIV cure interventions.
