SANTHE leads landmark ATI recommendations published in “The Lancet”
A major new manuscript, “Recommendations from the 2nd Consensus Workshop on Analytical Treatment Interruption in HIV Research Trials,” has been published in The Lancet – marking a significant milestone for SANTHE and the global HIV cure research community as a whole. Co-led by SANTHE Programme Director Thumbi Ndung’u, SANTHE Director of Strategic Partnerships Victoria Kasprowicz, and an international team of leading scientists, the paper presents updated, consensus-driven recommendations for the ethical and scientific conduct of analytical treatment interruption (ATI) studies. These guidelines provide critical direction to ensure ATI trials are conducted safely, rigorously, and with strong community engagement – strengthening the pathway toward an effective and equitable HIV cure. Importantly, this publication is the culmination of the 2nd global ATI Consensus Workshop, which SANTHE convened in 2024 – the first time such a workshop was held in Africa, and only the second of its kind worldwide.
