Danai Tavonga Zhou is a senior lecturer and microbiome researcher at the University of Zimbabwe, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. She holds a BSc Honours in Applied Biology/Biochemistry and an MSc in Clinical Biochemistry from Zimbabwe, and a PhD from the University of Oslo in Norway.
Her work focuses on microbiome research within the biomedical sciences, contributing to understanding of human health and disease. Beyond research, she is actively involved in scientific leadership and capacity building.
She serves as an executive committee member of the Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Zimbabwe National Chapter and is the founder of the AFRIESEARCHI Zimbabwe Gender in STEMM Mentorship Programme, established in 2020. Through this initiative, she mentors women in STEMM, academia, and health research, with a strong focus on advancing gender equity in science.
