Lynn Zijenah is a Professor of Immunology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Her research interests include immunogenetics of infectious diseases, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), development and evaluation of novel point-of care diagnostic tools for HIV and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Understanding the causes of diseases and how to quickly diagnose them will lead to development of new ways to prevent them as well as new medicines to treat the diseases.

SANTHE is an Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) flagship programme funded by the Science for Africa Foundation through the DELTAS Africa programme; the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Gilead Sciences Inc.; and the Ragon Institute of Mass General, MIT, and Harvard.
