Motswedi Anderson is a Research Associate at the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) in Durban, South Africa and the Botswana–Harvard AIDS Institute Partnership (BHP) in Gaborone, Botswana, in collaboration with the Francis Crick Institute in London, England. Her research focuses on viral hepatitis, particularly hepatitis B virus (HBV), including the burden of infection, the impact of HIV co-infection and HBV molecular characteristics. She works on characterising occult HBV infection, which can only be detected through molecular testing, with research spanning epidemiology, viral mutations and host genetic factors. She also has interests in hepatitis D and C viruses. Her work contributes to improving diagnosis, prevention and treatment strategies for viral hepatitis, with a focus on advancing elimination efforts in Africa, where hepatitis characterisation and control remain limited.
