High prevalence of hepatitis delta virus among people with hepatitis B virus and HIV coinfection in Botswana

J Infect Public Health

This article delves into the prevalence of hepatitis delta virus (HDV) among individuals who are coinfected with hepatitis B virus (HBV) and HIV in Botswana. HDV is a virus that can worsen liver disease in those already infected with HBV, and its presence alongside HIV adds complexity to managing these infections. The study finds a high prevalence of HDV among individuals with HBV and HIV coinfection in Botswana. Understanding the extent of HDV coinfection in this population is crucial for devising effective strategies to prevent and treat liver-related complications.
