Collaboration Interests
  • Virus Molecular Epidemiology

Charles Agoti leads the Pathogen Epidemiology and Omics Group at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kilifi, Kenya. His research focuses on understanding repeated viral infections, including influenza, rotavirus, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and how reinfections contribute to viral persistence and immune escape.

He also develops genomic sequencing approaches to characterise viral diversity across Africa and track transmission patterns. His work contributes to the development of improved diagnostics, vaccines, and strategies for pandemic preparedness and rapid response to emerging infectious diseases.

SANTHE is a pan-African consortium, with the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) serving as the operational site lead and funded by the Science for Africa Foundation through the DELTAS Africa programme; the Gates Foundation; Gilead Sciences Inc.; Aidsfonds; and the Ragon Institute of Mass General, MIT, and Harvard.
