Jonathan Matenga

Jonathan Arthur Matenga is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Cardiology in the Department of Medicine at the University of Zimbabwe Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, where he has served for more than 35 years as a clinician, educator, and researcher. He is a specialist physician and cardiologist with a medical degree from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, and holds a Master’s diploma in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Newcastle, Australia.

He established the Clinical Epidemiology Unit (CEU) at the University of Zimbabwe Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, which trained postgraduate students in clinical epidemiology, biostatistics, and research methodology. This unit later evolved into the Research Support Centre at the University of Zimbabwe.

His work includes extensive involvement in NIH-funded training and capacity-building programmes, including the PETRA programme, where he serves as Assistant Programme Director, as well as the MEPI-Junior Faculty programme and the NIH-PEPFAR Medical Education Partnership Initiative, where he served as co-Principal Investigator.

Through these initiatives, he has contributed to inter-professional education, collaborative practice, and dissemination and implementation science research across multiple institutions in Zimbabwe and the United States.
