Robert Krause is a research associate in the Leslie lab at the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI). Robert has an interest in communicable diseases, and during his PhD he focused on malaria diagnostics, whilst he has now transitioned to studying tuberculosis. In addition, he was involved with several SARS-CoV-2 studies during the COVID-19 pandemic. His current work focuses on B cell immunology in response to TB, with a particular focus on studying the human TB lung. It is here that B cells form part of immune cell aggregates in close proximity to tuberculous lesions. Understanding the function of these aggregates during TB and if they play a role in containing TB or facilitating its progression are key questions of his research.
