Sashin Harilall

Head of Research Grants

Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI), Durban, South Africa

Sashin Harilall is the Research Grants Manager at AHRI. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa, an Honours degree in Business Management from the University of South Africa, and has spent the past decade working in a non-profit organisational environment. He is responsible for managing a team of grants officers that are involved in pre-award management, grants and contracts, post-award grants management and research support. This entails assisting investigators compiling and submitting grant proposals, business registrations, drafting agreements, financial management, reporting, publication/open access support and ensuring both donor and institutional regulations are met.

Harilall is passionate about research administration and his goal is to make a positive impact by lessening the encumbering red tape usually associated with grants administration – giving PI’s and their teams more time to focus on their scientific goals.

SANTHE is an Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) flagship programme funded by the Science for Africa Foundation through the DELTAS Africa programme; the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Gilead Sciences Inc.; and the Ragon Institute of Mass General, MIT, and Harvard.
