Tilahun Ferede Asena is a biostatistician born and raised in Ethiopia, with a PhD in Applied Statistics from Hawassa University, Hawassa, Ethiopia. He is currently a Post-doctoral Researcher at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa, within the School of Medical Microbiology.

His professional background includes roles as an Assistant Professor at Arba Minch University, a Senior Biostatistician at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute, and a Data Analysis Learning and Reporting Specialist with World Vision Ethiopia. Across these roles, he has developed strong expertise in data management, statistical analysis, and biostatistical modelling, with a focus on improving public health outcomes.

He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, particularly in areas such as disease progression modelling and health risk factors in Ethiopia. He is also an active member of professional bodies including the International Statistical Institute and the Ethiopian Statistical Association, and is committed to mentoring emerging statisticians.

His broader interests include data visualisation, strategic planning, and advanced research methodologies, with a strong commitment to using statistical science to support meaningful public health impact and collaborative research.
