Teresia Muhomah

Terry Muhomah is a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Kenya AIDS Vaccine Initiative (KAVI) Institute of Clinical Research, based at the University of Nairobi in Nairobi, Kenya. Her research has focused primarily on mucosal immunology and HIV.

She was inspired to pursue a career in HIV research after witnessing the impact of the disease on many members of her community during her childhood. Since then, the significant advances in HIV research have transformed the condition from what was once considered a death sentence into a manageable chronic condition, where people can now live healthy lives.

This progress has further motivated her commitment to contributing to cure-focused research, with the hope that one day people living with HIV will be able to live an antiretroviral drug-free life. In pursuit of this goal, she is interested in characterising the HIV reservoir in tissues among individuals with non-clade B and C HIV. She believes that a comprehensive understanding of the HIV reservoir across clades will provide important insights that will support the development of a global cure.
