Stephen Kuria

Stephen Kuria is a bioinformatician with a strong background in biomedical sciences, biotechnology, and computational biology. He holds a BSc in Biomedical Sciences and Technology from Egerton University, an MSc in Biotechnology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), and an MSc in Bioinformatics from Pwani University, Kenya in collaboration with the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy.

His research interests lie at the intersection of bioinformatics and computational biology, with the goal of generating insights from biological data to improve health outcomes. His doctoral research focuses on characterising the antibody repertoire in sub-Saharan African populations. He aims to define the frequency and features of naïve and vaccine-induced antibodies across different HIV-specific broadly neutralising antibody classes in both healthy individuals and people living with HIV. This work is intended to inform the design and development of region-specific HIV vaccines.

Beyond research, he is passionate about applying bioinformatics to address pressing health challenges and advancing precision medicine in Africa.
