Project

Transcriptional heterogeneity of B cells and the impact on antibody responses in HIV

Collaboration Interests
  • HIV vaccine development/discovery
Supervisor

Sam Rasehlo was born in Limpopo province, South Africa. He holds a Master’s degree in Medical Microbiology from the University of Pretoria in Gauteng, South Africa.

His research interests focus on B cell responses in HIV infection, particularly in understanding the characteristics of B cells that produce broadly neutralising antibodies (bNAbs). He is interested in determining whether these antibody-producing B cells possess unique or favourable features that could inform vaccine design.

His work aims to support the development of HIV vaccine formulations capable of eliciting similar broadly neutralising antibody responses, contributing to improved vaccine strategies against HIV.

SANTHE is an Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) flagship programme funded by the Science for Africa Foundation through the DELTAS Africa programme; the Gates Foundation; Gilead Sciences Inc.; and the Ragon Institute of Mass General, MIT, and Harvard.
