Liebenberg’s research focuses on efforts to curb the HIV epidemic by understanding and limiting the causes and consequences of genital inflammation. These research interests are supported by her training in cell culture, multiplex ELISA technology, multiparametric flow cytometry, single cell technology, and by her keen willingness to learn and apply novel technologies. Her career in research has been shaped by a deep-rooted interest in improvement through training, networking and mentoring. Liebenberg has an established publication record, secured several international and local grants, and has been an invited speaker at several prominent local and international meetings. She serves as an honorary Senior Lecturer in the School of Laboratory Medicine and Medical Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where she is actively involved in teaching university students and supervising research projects.
