SANTHE’s mission is to advance African science and scientists in the fight against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB), HIV/TB and associated morbidities.
The organisation supports innovative research projects, trainee fellowships, collaborations, leadership development programmes and community and public engagement (CPE) as well as diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in science.
No African national is excluded from our efforts to build capacity in science on the continent – including those with diverse backgrounds, whether they be gender, socio-economic, religious, ethnicity related or other.
- Enhance research on HIV, TB, associated morbidities, and emerging diseases like COVID-19, through pioneering basic, clinical and translational research.
- Support African scientists through leadership development efforts.
- Strengthen partner institutions for intellectual and financial independence.
- Transform approaches to community and public engagement for impact.
In order to achieve its objectives, SANTHE’s research work is divided into four work packages:
- Surveillance of circulating HIV viruses to inform prevention, treatment or eradication strategies.
- Mechanisms underlying heterogeneity of immune responses following vaccination or infection in African populations (with relevance to HIV, TB or SARS-CoV-2).
- Tuberculosis Immunology.
- HIV Cure.
