SANTHE Consortium Committee Member & Site Principal Investigator (Non-African Collaborating Partner Site)
Simon Fraser University (SFU), British Columbia, Canada

Mark Brockman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University (SFU), Canada, and an Associate Scientist at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. Brockman applies molecular and cell biology approaches to investigate HIV pathogenesis and the host immune response to viral infection. His current studies focus on understanding the impact of immune escape mutations on viral protein function and cytotoxic T lymphocyte recognition; measuring the ability of T cell receptors to recognise HIV-infected target cells; and assessing the role of viral regulatory and accessory proteins on establishment and maintenance of latency. Results will assist in the development of new vaccines and immune-based therapeutics.
