Trainee Type:

Mohamed Ahmed is a graduate from the Vrije Universiteit (VU) University of Amsterdam with both a Bachelors and Masters in Medical Biology. Aspiring to work in the field of infectious diseases, he arrived in Durban, South Africa at the end of 2016 to take up a PhD position in the Leslie Laboratory at the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI). Having been informed about the devastating impact of the twin scourges of tuberculosis (TB) and HIV in South Africa and particularly KwaZulu-Natal, Ahmed is more than keen to play his part in the contribution towards a viable solution. His current project focuses on dissecting the host-pathogen interactions in TB with an emphasis on the cell biology of immune cells called phagocytes.
