Patrick Lungu decided to become a scientist at a tender age but it was during his second grade of primary school that he decided to become a medical doctor. His interest in TB research stems from the challenges he faces in treating TB in his clinical practice. His PhD study is on protective immunity against TB. The theme of the study originated from the observations he made in his MMED study where he observed that certain population mount a robust immune response that prevents TB infection.
What drives Lungu is the desire to make a difference and the belief that through research on protective immunity, we can develop a more potent vaccine that is protective against pulmonary TB and eventually help end TB.
