Saiyuri Singh obtained a degree in Medical Science (Physiology) and an Honours degree in Medical Science (Medical Microbiology). She is a masters student in the field of Host Genetics at the Kwa-Zulu Natal Research and Innovation Sequencing Platform (KRISP) based at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. She has a keen interest in virology which is why she is currently working on determining the factors that affect HLA-A expression in order to improve HIV disease outcome. It has been shown that elevated HLA-A expression is associated with worse HIV disease outcomes therefore identifying factors that affect these expression levels could prove useful in improving these disease outcomes. She believes that host genetics holds the answer to many disease-based dilemmas.
