Wonderful Tatenda Choga is a recipient of Merck-UNESCO Researchers Award. The Merck Foundation is a German philanthropic organisation that aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people and advance their lives through science and technology.
Choga has a passion for molecular-virology and bioinformatics. He is currently working on molecular genotyping and analysing Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) strains in HIV co-infected individuals in Botswana. The ultimate goal of his project is to contribute knowledge that will lead to the development of a very effective epitope-based vaccine, that can be used to: augment current vaccines and therapeutics that can cure HBV in Chronic Hepatitis B (CHB) patients; and develop immune diagnostic assays for HBV.
