Lerato Ndlovu did her Masters in Plant Breeding and Biochemistry before working in Dr Al Leslie’s immunology lab at AHRI. The change was inspired by wanting to be part of the solution when it comes to TB and HIV. She also just wanted to work on something important, something she was passionate about - especially since she’s lost some family members and friends to both diseases. Her project is based on looking at a set of innate immune cells called neutrophils which are activated during bacterial infections. She’s interested in investigating their unique phenotypic signature as a potential biomarker for TB disease status.
